Consultant Retinal and Cataract Surgeon
Mr Robbie Walker is a consultant retinal (VR) and cataract surgeon, and an emergency ophthalmology specialist.
Mr. Walker was trained in North London including fellowship training at Moorfields – He currently works as a consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (The Western Eye Hospital) and as a locum consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Robbie has built a reputation as an excellent surgeon and surgical trainer. He has been chosen and trusted to operate on the family members of other eye surgeons, a family of colleagues at the places he works and the family members of local doctors. He is proud of the continuing great feedback he receives from patients and colleagues alike. He achieves excellent surgical results.
He has been appointed as an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He is currently one of the lead consultants for the Western Eye Hospitals emergency department.
Subspecialties – Vitreoretinal surgery (including retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, diabetes, lens exchange), cataracts (including complex cataracts, and dealing with the complications of cataract surgery), retinal conditions including age-related macular degeneration, diabetes, and vein occlusions, urgent and general eye conditions.

In his spare time, he continues his dedication to training the surgeons of tomorrow by undertaking a master’s level degree in surgical education at Imperial College London where he was awarded the prestigious Deans scholarship. This award goes with the academic scholarship he earned at Oxford University whilst an undergraduate and follows on from his time as a secondary school teacher prior to becoming a doctor.
He organises regular teaching for retinal surgeons and is frequently an invited speaker at teaching events and conferences. He recently won a prize at Moorfields hospital for his work related to improving quality. Before his career in medicine, he was a fully qualified secondary school teacher.
Esther Posner is a Consultant Ophthalmologist in the Medical Retina department and clinical lead for the diabetic eye service at the Western Eye Hospital, London since 2015 and prior to that at Barts and the London NHS Trust from 2005 after completing a Fellowship in Medical Retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Esther sees patients with a wide variety of retinal conditions such as wet and dry macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal artery and vein occlusions, retinal monitoring for hydroxychloroquine, central serous retinopathy, retinal naevi (moles), floaters and genetic retinal disorders. She also sees patients with general ophthalmology and emergency eye conditions.
